Local, or not
at all.

Arbroath Eats is the town's own food directory and a small growth studio for the people who cook here. One town. One postcode district. Every good plate in it.

Our story

A directory with a dinner plate for a heart.

Arbroath has always been a town that feeds people. Monks baked bread in the shadow of the Abbey; fishwives smoked haddock over hardwood in the barrels of the Fit o' the Toon; generations of holidaymakers have queued along the harbour for a supper eaten out of the paper.

Yet search for somewhere to eat here and you'll find the town buried under national chains, out-of-date listings and directories that can't tell Arbroath from anywhere within twenty miles. We thought the town deserved better than that.

So we built the Index: a directory that covers Arbroath and only Arbroath — every listing inside the five DD11 postcode sectors — organised by the things people actually crave. Coffee. Fish and chips. A proper sit-down dinner. Something from the bakery. Something from the garden.

And because a listing alone doesn't pay the rent, we became a studio too. We photograph, brand and build for the kitchens in the Index, and we help them take orders directly through Bizzy Apps Pro — at 5% per order, VAT included — so more of every pound spent in Arbroath stays in Arbroath.

Eight centuries of appetite

The town's table, so far.

  1. 1178

    The Abbey is founded

Arbroath Abbey rises in red sandstone; its great round window — the “Round O” — is said to have been lit to guide ships home — and it inspires our logo.

  2. 1320

    The Declaration

Scotland's nobles seal the Declaration of Arbroath. We like to think someone brought a packed lunch.

  3. 1811

    The Bell Rock is lit

Eleven miles offshore, the Bell Rock Lighthouse first shines — the world's oldest surviving sea-washed lighthouse.

  4. 2004

    The Smokie is protected

The Arbroath Smokie gains Protected Geographical Indication status: the real thing must be smoked within five miles of the town.

  5. 2026

    Arbroath Eats opens its Index

A directory for DD11 alone, and a studio for the kitchens in it. The next chapter is yours.

Our patch
